Sturgeon Spawning in Northeast WI

The spawning season is starting late this year.  The DNR is hoping to see signs of the sturgeon beginning later this week with the warmer weather.  Stay tuned and I will update when I know more!

It occurs over a 7-10 day period, so it comes and goes quickly.  The chance to see these massive, historic fish up close and personal is something you can’t see anywhere else in the nation!

While it is impossible to predict the exact dates of the Sturgeon Spawning, keep in mind that the water temperature usually needs to be between 50-60 degrees, so keep an eye on the forecast.  These fish are protected during this time by volunteers of the Sturgeon Patrol Guard, who are routinely scheduled from April 15th through May 5th at each location. (later this year)

The most popular places to view the action are:

1.)  Bamboo Bend in Shiocton  (on Cty Hwy 54)

2.)  Shawano Dam in Shawano

3.)  Wolf River Sturgeon Trail in New London  (about 2 miles west of New London on Cty Hwy X).

We got to see this Awesome sight last year and my advice for the first timers would be to make sure you have your camera and just be patient!

May 7th-11th is Teacher Appreciation Week and Tuesday of this week is National Teacher Appreciation Day!
Teachers guide, inspire and teach and this week we get to tell them how much they mean to us and our kids! Let’s recognize them for their hard work and dedication and say Thank You to a teacher who has inspired you or your child!
Here are a few ways to say Thanks –
** 1.) A Handwritten Note/Card is the best way to show your appreciation.
** 2.) Books for the classroom are Great! A teacher can never have too many books for his or her students.
** 3.) Fun and Inspirational School Supplies. Every student and teacher needs school supplies, so why not find an inspirational pencil or notebook to brighten your teacher’s day?
** 4.) Morning Coffee or Tea! Give that teacher a little boost. A teacher’s day is busy, and that extra caffeine in the morning is sure to help!
** 5.) Give A Gift Card! Find out their favorite store or Restaurant and give them something to look forward to at the end of the week.
