Doty Community Center
Upwards of fifty sled dog teams hailing from throughout the Midwest and beyond will converge on the Town of Doty for the inaugural running of the Doty Dog Days of Winter, Sled Dog Race & Winter Festival. Races will start at 10:00am on Saturday and 9:00am on Sunday and continue throughout the day. Race start and finish is located at the Doty Community Center, 14899 County Road T, Mountain, WI 54149. Location is 1 mile North of State Highway 64 on County Road T.
Race events on both Saturday and Sunday will include Junior (age seven and up) two and three dog classes, Adult ten dog, six dogs and four dog classes and Adult two and three dog skijoring. Race distances will vary from 2 miles to 12.5 miles in length. Ample spectator viewing areas are available at the race start and finish lines. Spectators are encouraged to enter the dog holding area and watch them being prepared for their race. You may even be asked to help hold a team at the starting line.
Wisconsin Trailblazers Sled Dog Club will manage the races. They are an organization dedicated to actively supporting the sport of Sled Dog Racing in order to familiarize the public with the sport.
Winter Festival events will include dog sled rides for both kids and adults, event photography contest and snowshoe hike to a cedar swamp with a warming fire by the creek and S’mores and hot drinks. Bring your own snowshoes or demo shoes will be available to try out.
Winter weather in February is unpredictable and can vary from mid to cold. Dress accordingly to insure your outdoor comfort.
Food and drinks will be available both days at the Community Center starting at 7:30 in the morning. Event t-shirts will also be available as a memento of the event.
A Musher Meet & Greet Banquet Saturday event will conclude the day’s activities. The public is invited to join us at Carter Casino for an evening of socializing, good food, and a short movie & program on Dog Powered Sports. Banquet serving time is 6:00pm.
