PLYMOUTH, WI – Artists Jean Crane and Joan Kennedy will be featured in the exhibit, Intimate Visions, January 19- March 9, 2018 at Gallery 110 North, Plymouth Arts Center. In this exhibit the artists seek to express their personal interpretations of the natural world through the distinctly different art forms of watercolor and fiber art. Jean Crane, as a professional watercolor artist for more than 40 years, creates compositions of expressive florals. Joan Kennedy’s three-dimensional art is constructed from hand-dyed, reclaimed wool fabric, then felted into one-of-a kind handbags and wearable art.

The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening reception on Friday, January 19th from 4:30 to 7:00pm. Admission is Free! Live musical entertainment will be provided by Kathy Arndt, Piano, from 5-6pm and by Louise Mann’s Piano Studio, Lori Brown, George Schroeder, and Louise Mann, NCTM, from 6-7pm. Complimentary appetizers will be served along with a cash bar.  Mr. Franz Backus and Sun Graphics/Justin and Kelly Webb are generously  co-sponsoring “Intimate Visions.”

Joan Kennedy…”I find so much delight in the natural world that I’m compelled to share my joy through my art.  I’m overwhelmed by the miracle in which a seed, soil, water and sunlight grow into the succulent nourishment of a vegetable; by the exuberance of trees which provide shade, shelter and food; the play of sunlight on water, or as it glows through a single leaf. I visit gardens and woodlands to experience these joys. In my studio, photos that I’ve taken help me relive these experiences as I translate them into fiber by dyeing the colors and building the shapes that captivated me. My hope is that people will connect with my art through their own experiences, and will gain new insights that enhance their future experiences in the natural world.”

Jean Crane…..“When painting, I lose myself in the enlarged fragments of living or dying flowers, developing a sense of detail and movement, and weaving them into the background. I hope to bring attention to the ongoing cycles of life and death that surround us. I am drawn to watercolor because of the wonderful transparency of the media and the sense of light it captures. Each painting is a continuous act of balancing and re-balancing color and value; each change in light and shadow shifts the sense of balance in the entire work. My aim is to create paintings where both active and passive areas interact, and where each part generates its own sense of energy while contributing, at the same time, to a unified composition.”
